Star Wars Finally Explains How Luke Skywalker Was Able To Rebuild The Jedi, Even After Order 66 & The Dark Times

Luke Skywalker had a shocking amount of knowledge about the Jedi, their practices, and their history, and Star Wars may finally have revealed how he acquired so much information. Although Luke’s Jedi Temple had already been destroyed by the time the sequel trilogy began with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Luke had built a Temple and begun restoring the Jedi in the time between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. The Temple has since been shown briefly in The Book of Boba Fett, before Luke had multiple students.

Even in The Book of Boba Fett, though, little was revealed about how Luke acquired sufficient knowledge of the Jedi to begin rebuilding the Jedi Order. Yes, Luke trained with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Master Yoda, but Luke’s time with both Jedi Masters was minimal. It certainly wasn’t adequate time to learn all that he needed to establish a Jedi Temple, and significant history had already been lost throughout various wars and purges. Star Wars’ new TV show, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, may have finally explained this mystery.

Star Wars Rebels Showed How Some Jedi Temples Could Survive

In Rebels, Kanan Jarrus And Ezra Bridger Visit A Jedi Temple On Lothal

Although the Jedi had already withdrawn considerably from their many posts throughout the galaxy by Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace and the Empire nearly eradicated the Jedi in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, Star Wars Rebels revealed that some Jedi Temples survived these many events. In Rebels, Jedi Master Kanan Jarrus and his Padawan Ezra Bridger visit the Jedi Temple on Lothal, one of the many Jedi Temple locations in Star Wars. There, Kanan and Ezra both had and completed their Jedi trials.

This Temple on Lothal proved that there were ways Jedi Temples survived, even when the Empire took over. Of course, there were plenty of examples to the contrary. One key example was sadly the main Jedi Temple on Coruscant, which was turned into Palpatine’s Imperial Palace after the Republic and the Jedi Order fell. There was therefore considerable knowledge and history lost when such Temples were destroyed or taken over, but both Rebels and Skeleton Crew revealed how such information could have been preserved and ultimately uncovered by Luke.

Wim’s Knowledge Of Jedi Temples Reveals Many Temples May Have Survived

Rebels had already laid the foundation for Jedi Temples to have survived many of the galaxy’s gruesome events, including the Dark Times, but Skeleton Crew confirmed that Lothal was not the only Jedi Temple that managed to survive after the Jedi Order fell. In Skeleton Crew, Wim believes he has found a Jedi Temple on At Attin, his home planet and one of the new planets in Skeleton Crew. He also explained that Jedi Temples had the ability to bury themselves to protect against threats and intruders—as seen in Rebels with the Temple on Lothal.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Cast & Character Guide

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has a large cast of characters, so Screen Rant is breaking down who all of them are.

In light of both Rebels and Skeleton Crew, it seems more than possible that many Jedi Temples across the galaxy were able to be concealed and kept safe, come what may. If the Temples were able to protect themselves in this way, it would also mean that the contents within the Temples—such as archives—would have been kept safe as well. Could this be how Luke Skywalker managed to learn so much about the Jedi?

If there were indeed hidden Jedi Temples across the galaxy that were kept safe through preservation methods similar to what was seen on Lothal in Rebels and discussed in Skeleton Crew, Luke could have gained access to Jedi information through them. This would explain how he was able to learn so much, despite his limited time with Obi-Wan and Yoda and (seemingly) lack of access to much of the history thought to be lost. In fact, this may even explain why Luke ultimately headed to Ahch-To.

Perhaps Luke had discovered information about the Jedi through these various other Jedi Temples, and he believed that Ahch-To, as the very first Jedi Temple location, was the place in which he could finally find the answers to the questions he still had. Access to the sacred Jedi texts would undoubtedly have contributed to this as well. While Star Wars has yet to confirm it, based on what has been disclosed in Rebels and Skeleton Crew, it seems quite possible that Luke Skywalker may have used hidden Jedi Temples across the galaxy to learn all he could about the Jedi.
